Actions,Tokens,Files
The File Management actions work with the files and folders of your site. They copy and delete files, delete folders, and save files from a URL, text or Base64 content.
More file and folder actions, such as creating, renaming and moving folders, setting folder permissions, renaming files, archives and FTP uploads, are in the File Management add-on. To set up Amazon S3 storage connections from an action, see the Amazon S3 Storage add-on.
Choosing an action
| Action | What it does | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Save File | Saves a file downloaded from a URL, or created from text or a Base64 Data URI. | Store a file from an external API, save a drawn signature, or write CSV or JSON to a file. |
| Copy File | Copies a file into another folder, keeping its name, and saves the copy's details as tokens. | Copy an upload into a record's folder, or copy a template before filling it in. |
| Delete File | Deletes one or more files. | Remove a temporary file after it has been emailed or uploaded. |
| Delete Folder | Deletes a folder, and with Recursive checked, everything in it. | Remove temporary working folders after a process finishes. |
Working with files
- There's no Move File action. Copy the file with Copy File, then delete the original with Delete File. To copy under a new name, copy first, then rename the copy with Rename File from the File Management add-on.
- Same-name files. Copy File overwrites a file with the same name. Save File lets you choose between
RenameandOverwrite. - Permissions of copies. A copied file gets the permissions of the destination folder, not of the original folder.
- Files outside the file system. Delete File and Delete Folder also delete files and folders that exist on disk but aren't in the site's file system, as long as they're inside the portal folder.
- Deleting is permanent. Files and folders deleted by these actions can't be recovered from Plant an App. If a token in a folder path is empty, the path can point at the parent folder, so check tokens with a condition before you delete.
- Errors. Copy File and Delete Folder have an
Ignore errorsoption that logs the error and lets the next actions run. Delete File skips missing files, and Delete Folder does nothing if the folder doesn't exist. Check each action's page.
To create PDF, Word or Excel files, see the PDF Generator, Word and Excel add-ons. To call an HTTP service with a method other than GET, see Server Request in the Data actions.
