Load Entry (by ID) (Obsolete)

Audience: Low-code Engineers

Skill Prerequisites: Actions, Forms

Reloads the page with a saved form report entry loaded into the form. When the user submits the form again, that entry is updated instead of a new one being created.

This action is only available in Forms.

caution

This action is obsolete. It works with the built-in form reports (the entries saved by Save Report in the Database), which are obsolete too. For new applications, save form data to your own database table and load it back into the form yourself, for example with Run SQL Query.

Typical Use Cases

  • Let a user reopen a report entry they submitted earlier, using the entry ID from a link or a lookup
  • Maintain existing forms that already rely on form reports

Don't use it to

Action NameDescription
Load Entry (by User ID) (Obsolete)Loads the most recent entry a user submitted in this form.
Save Report in the DatabaseSaves the form data as a report entry.
Run SQL QueryReads your own data, the recommended replacement.

How it works

  1. The action reads EntryId and looks for the report entry with that key.
  2. If the value isn't a valid GUID, or no entry has that key, the action does nothing and the next actions run.
  3. If that entry is already loaded in the form, the action also does nothing. This stops the page from redirecting over and over.
  4. Otherwise, the action redirects to the current page with ?entry=<EntryId> added to the URL. The form opens with the entry's values filled in.

When the form is submitted from that URL, the entry is updated instead of a new one being created.

Input Parameter Reference

ParameterDescriptionSupports TokensDefaultRequired
EntryIdThe key (a GUID) of the report entry to load, for example [EntryKey].Yesempty stringNo

Considerations

  • The redirect ends the current run. Put the action last, or after the actions that must run first.
  • Use it in button actions. It builds the redirect from the page URL that the form sends when a button is clicked.
  • Entries from another form are merged into the form's values when the page loads. But the submission only updates the entry if it belongs to the same form. Otherwise, a new entry is saved.
  • Anyone who knows the entry ID can load it. The action doesn't check who submitted the entry. Add a condition if the user shouldn't see other people's entries. See Common Parameters.

Examples

tip

To understand how to use the below examples, please see Running Examples.

1. Open an entry chosen in a field

This action reloads the form with the report entry whose key is in the EntryKey field. It only runs when the field has a value.
