Repost Data
Audience:
Low-code EngineersSkill Prerequisites:
Actions,Forms,Tokens
Sends the user's browser to another URL with an HTTP POST, carrying the values you choose. It works like a classic HTML form that posts to another page. The browser leaves the current page, and no actions after this one run.
This action is only available in Forms.
How it works
- The action builds a hidden HTML form with
method='post'and the Url as its target. - Each
key=valueline in Post Data becomes a hidden input. - If Repost Everything is on, every current token is added as a hidden input too, unless a key with the same name was already added from Post Data.
- The form is sent to the browser, added to the page and submitted right away with JavaScript.
The post happens in the browser, not on the server. So the target sees the user's browser as the caller, and the user ends up on the target page.
Typical Use Cases
- Hand off to an external checkout or payment page that expects form fields in a
POST - Pass form values to a legacy page or another site that reads posted form data
- Send the user to another page with values that shouldn't appear in the query string
Don't use it to
- Call an API and keep the user on the form. Use Server Request instead.
- Redirect with a normal
GET. Use Redirect to URL or Redirect to Portal Page. - Run more actions afterwards. Nothing after this action runs.
Related Actions
| Action Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Redirect to URL | Sends the browser to a URL with a normal redirect. |
| Redirect to Portal Page | Sends the browser to a page of the portal. |
| Server Request | Calls a URL from the server and keeps the user on the page. |
Input Parameter Reference
| Parameter | Description | Supports Tokens | Default | Required |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Url | The address to post to. It can be relative or absolute, and on the same or a different domain, for example https://pay.example.com/checkout. If it's empty, the browser posts back to the current page. | Yes | empty string | No |
| Post Data | The values to send, one key=value pair per line, for example email=[Email]. Tokens are replaced in both the key and the value. Lines without = are skipped. Spaces around the key and value are trimmed. | Yes | empty string | No |
| Repost Everything | When on, also sends every current token, such as form fields, as name=value pairs. Keys already listed in Post Data aren't sent twice. The Post Data value wins. | No | false | No |
Considerations
- Final action. It ends the current run. Actions after it never run. Put it last, after the actions that save data or send emails.
- Use it in button actions. The post is triggered by the page in the browser after the button's actions return.
- Repost Everything sends a lot. It sends every token in the current execution, not only visible fields. That includes internal values and query string values, which are named like
QueryString:id. Turn it off and list the keys in Post Data when the target shouldn't receive everything. - Values are HTML-encoded, keys aren't. Values are safe to contain quotes and
<. Keep keys to plain names, without quotes or tokens that come from user input. - The URL is used as is. Tokens are replaced, but the result isn't encoded. Encode query string values yourself if they may contain special characters.
- Data is visible to the user. The values are placed in the page as hidden inputs before posting. Don't post secrets such as API keys.
