Takes the user to the page that shows a listing item. The page is the View Url set in the listing's data source settings, filled in with the item's values. It opens in the same browser tab or in a popup over the listing.

It's used on item buttons. It's also what the View Item special button uses.

Typical Use Cases

• Add a View button to each row that opens a details page for the record
• Show a read-only page for the item in a popup

Don't use it to

• Show an item's details without a separate page. Use Detail View or Custom Detail View instead.
• Edit the item. Use Datasource Edit instead.
• Go to any other URL. Use Redirect to URL instead.

Where the URL comes from

Set the URL in the listing's data source settings, in the View Url field. It's available on the Database Table, SQL Advanced Query, SQL Select and obsolete Action Form data sources. See Listings Datasources.

• The URL can contain tokens for the item's fields, for example /products/details?id=[Id].
• Unlike the Add Url and Edit Url, no returnurl parameter is added.

The action reloads the item from the data source using its ID. It shows an error when:

Error	Cause
Entry does not exist	The item wasn't found, for example because it was deleted.
No view url defined	The data source has no View Url, or doesn't support one.
Data source is not configured	The listing has no data source.

Considerations

• Final action. The action returns a result to the browser, so actions after it in the same list don't run.
• Needs an item. Use it on item buttons. On a root button's Actions list there's no item. In a Per Item Actions list, the browser ignores the result, so nothing opens.
• Listings only. Use it in listings. The User Guides module lists an action with the same name, without the popup parameters, but 1.28 has no implementation for it there.

1. View a product in a popup

This action opens the data source's View Url for the clicked row in a popup titled with the product's Name field.
