Detail View

Audience: Low-code Engineers

Skill Prerequisites: Listings

Shows the details of a listing item in a panel, built automatically from the item's fields. The panel can open as a modal, a left or right sidebar, or inline under the row. You don't write any HTML.

It's used on a listing's item buttons. It needs the Angular listing views and doesn't work in the Legacy view.

Detail View or Custom Detail View?

The names are easy to mix up. Pick the one that matches how much control you need over the content.

Typical Use Cases

  • Let users check all of a record's details without opening another page
  • Show fields that are too wide or too many for the listing's columns
  • Give users a quick panel with the record's details and its item buttons, such as Edit or Delete

Don't use it to

Action NameDescription
Custom Detail ViewShows item details using your own HTML template.
Datasource ViewRedirects to the item's view URL.
Datasource EditOpens the item for editing.

Datasource DeleteDeletes the item.

Input Parameter Reference

ParameterDescriptionSupports TokensDefaultRequired
Display ModeWhere the panel opens: Modal, Left Sidebar, Right Sidebar or Inline. See Display modes.NoRight SidebarNo
TitleText shown in the panel's header. Use item tokens such as [FirstName] or [CreatedOn:FormattedValue], plus any other tokens. It's shown as plain text, so HTML tags aren't rendered.Yesempty stringNo

Item tokens are the clicked item's field values, by field Name: [FieldName] for the raw value, [FieldName:FormattedValue] for the value as the listing shows it, and [Id] for the item's ID. See Listing Tokens for other tokens.

What the panel shows

  • Fields. Every listing field with Visible On > Detail View checked, in the listing's field order. Each shows its title and formatted value, with a copy button. Empty values show --. The setting is on by default for new fields, and it's separate from the Mobile, Tablet, Desktop and Large Screens settings. So you can hide a field from the listing columns and still show it here.
  • Footer (modal and sidebars). The item's ID and the item's other buttons, so users can act on the record from the panel. The button that opened the panel isn't repeated there. The listing's tooltip also shows here when tooltips are turned on.
  • Inline mode shows the title and fields only, without the footer.

Display modes

ValueShown as
ModalA centered dialog.
LeftSidebarA panel that slides in from the left.
RightSidebarA panel that slides in from the right. This is the default.
InlineA panel under the clicked row.

Inline only works for item buttons in the Data Table view, when the item buttons are on the right. Everywhere else, the panel opens as a right sidebar.

Considerations

  • Item buttons only. It shows the item the button belongs to, so add it to an item button, not a root button.
  • Not in the Legacy view. The Legacy view ignores this action, and the Detail View field setting is disabled there. Use Custom Detail View if you need the Legacy view.
  • It ends execution. It's a final action, so actions placed after it don't run.
  • No extra data is loaded. The panel uses the field values already loaded for the row.
