Slack

Audience: Low-code Engineers

Skill Prerequisites: Actions, Tokens, Connectors

The Slack add-on posts messages to a Slack channel through a Slack incoming webhook. Use its action to tell a team about something that happened in your application, such as a new order, a failed process or a daily summary.

note

The add-on is installed separately as the PlantAnApp.Integrations.Slack package, and needs the PAPSLACK feature in your license. If it isn't licensed, the action fails with a "not licensed" error. If you don't see the Send Slack Message action or the Slack (WebHook) connector type, the add-on isn't installed.

Choosing an action

ActionWhat it doesUse it to
Send Slack MessagePosts a text message, with Slack formatting, to a channel or user through a Slack (WebHook) connector.Notify a sales channel about a new lead, or alert support from an On Error list.

Setup

  • Webhook and connector. Create an app with an incoming webhook in Slack, then add a Slack (WebHook) connector in Plant an App with the webhook URL and a default channel. You can also create it from actions with Add Connector. See Send Slack Message.
  • One webhook per channel. Webhooks created by a Slack app always post to the channel chosen when the webhook was created. If you need several channels, create one webhook and one connector for each.
  • Testing posts a real message. Test Connector sends Integration successful. to the default channel.

What isn't covered

  • Reading messages or reacting to Slack events. The action only sends.
  • Files and rich layouts. It sends text only. Use Server Request to call other Slack APIs, for example to post blocks.
  • Errors stop the process. If Slack rejects the message or can't be reached, the action fails. Wrap it in Execute Actions with On Error if a failed notification shouldn't stop the process.

For the connector actions, see Connectors. For email, see Email. For all add-ons, see Add-ons.
